I would imagine that TX would have the majority of jobs for Geologists, but are there other states or areas? TIA

  1. Up North along the Mid Western region.  I"m currently in Texas but we really don't see much geologists.  I guess the stigma of oil and fuel deposits would carry this out but I believe there are other states who utilize Geologists the same if not more than Texas.   My dad was  geologist and most of his training and practice was in northern regions primarily in Canada.  I presume any state that borders the north would be a great haven for Geologists.  I also would like to include California as a possible one given the terrain in the area.

  2. guessing around the grand canyon?

  3. Texas and Alaska are the biggest. Look for any state that has large fossil fuel deposits

  4. I would say the state of Utah would have a lot of Geology professions.  I live in Utah and there are a bunch of Geologists that work here.  Mostly around Salt Lake City, but there are a few in other parts of Utah.  In the South Eastern part of Utah there is Zion's National Park.  There are a lot of Geology job opportunities available. I hope this helps!

  5. Depends on how you want to specialize.

I'm in SC and am an Environmental Geologist.  You can get work in this field in almost all states.  As a geophysicist you can get alot of jobs in the oil industry and that seems to be mostly overseas, or around the gulf.  In mining, most of the jobs seem to be in the western part of the country.

  7. California. Every time we do any major excavating we have a state required Geologist on site along with a paleontologist and some one from the Indian Tribes monitoring our dig
