  1. Look here. Interesting that it is RailWAY and not ROAD . Is this the only use of that term in the USA?


  2. Well, I guess the Wikipedia article sums it up better than I could off the top of my head.. The GRR was local to Massachussets.

    At any rate, its worth noting the Granite Railroad was really America's first railroad. It's charter predates that of the B&O. The GRR later became part of the Old Colony Railroad, and then the New Haven (New York, New Haven, & Hartford RR).
