Question:

What part of the foot do I cut dance tights for Modern?

I have a dance camp this week(4 more days to go) and the order of dances is: Hip-Hop, Modern, and then Ballet. We're not supposed to wear tights in Modern, but they told me that I could cut a hole in the bottom of my ballet tights, so that they weren't so slippy. But I don't know exactly what part of the foot I'm supposed to do that. Please help!!

  1. cut the the toe! then fold them up to your knees

  2. I have been in dance for 12 years and you can buy tights like that.  You can buy tights that have an opening in the bottom so you can put your foot through it and roll them up.  But if you really want to cut them, then you will cut in the middle, just below the ball of your foot.

  3. I'v been training in dance (tap/jazz/ballet/lyrical/contemporary & a bit of pointe since i was 3 or 4 and i'v used those kind of tights before. If you're going to cut your own, you cut almost like an oval where the arch of your foot is. but if you cut your own they might rip or soemthing like that. You can buy ones that have the holes already in the bottom and they're made so that the won't rip or get ruined. They're the ones I have and i would reccomend them.

  4. the sole of the foot, but those tights wont last long once you cut them!

you should get some convertible tights that are already cut but wont fray

Discount dance has tons of this kind of tight

  5. Modern dance is done barefoot, so I'm guessing they meant for you to cut the whole foot off of your tights.

  6. Get convertible tights. They're much better!! Once at a dress rehearsal  I cut my tights at the bottom, and there ended up being several HUGE runs in the back of my tights by the end of my dance routine. I had to run to the store that night to get new tights for the next day and I made sure to get convertible and they worked perfectly, and they lasted really long. My advice: don't cut your tights!

  7. Are you sure they didn't say cut the foot off? If it's that, cut if off about 5 inches from you ankle. If you are supposed to cut a little hole in the bottom of the foot, do it right on the arch of your foot, about 4 1/2 inches from your middle toe. Good luck! :D

  8. The sole of the foot.

  9. i do competition and some times i have that same order cutting the tights isn't a good idea it may start a run in the tights i say you should wear footless or convertable tight and then switch in to pick ones after the dance or if they let you wear pink convertable tights so after the modern dane all you have to do is fold them up
