I bought my bike a little over a year ago. I screwed the pedals in as instructed, but one of them ended up coming loose and striped the part where the pedal screws in. A new pedal isn't what I need, I need the "leg" of the pedal. What is this part called?

  1. pedal arm

  2. crank arm man or you might get a bike shop to rethread it for you hope this helps

  3. It is called the crank arm. FYI, the one on the right side of the bike is a right hand thread (clockwise to tighten) and the one on the left side of the bike is a left hand thread (counter-clockwise to tighten). Always put a small dab of grease on the pedal threads before s******g in the pedals. A standard open-end wrench might not fit between the pedeal and the crank arm. In that case, you will need a special pedal wrench. Fortunately, they are not expensive. I got mine at Performance on sale for $10.

  4. Most left pedals have an "L" stamped into the end of the threaded end. Not only does it denote that it's a left pedal, it also tells you it's left handed threads. Unscrew it to s***w it in. Maybe that's all that's wrong with your crank arm. If there really is a problem with the crank arm, your LBS can order just one arm, or they can install a 'helicoil' which is an insert to replace the damaged threads.

  5. Crank Arm.
