What parts are there in the musical Carousel?

I'm a sixteen year old girl and I'm going to be auditioning for the musical Carousel later on in the year but I have'nt watched it before, can anyone help me to get an idea of what parts I can go for?

  1. It'll depend on whether you're auditioning for a school production or not - as obviously in a school production you have a shot at the older roles!  Anyway, the lead female characters are:

    - Julie Jordan (a young millworker who marries Billy Bigelow, a carousel barker)

    - Carrie Pipperidge (Julie's friend, marries Enoch Snow, a local fisherman)

    - Mrs Mullin (the carousel owner)

    - Nettie Fowler (Julie's cousin)

    - Louise (Julie and Billy's daughter)

    It also needs a good-sized female chorus.

    Carousel is not the most cheerful musical out there, and deals with some pretty big themes - social class, hypocrisy and domestic violence - but it's a wonderful show (and not-quite-so-wonderful film, a lot of the great songs were cut) and is widely regarded as one of the best musicals of the 20th century.
