I've owned old jeeps my entire life and never had to wash/wax my Jeep. Now I'm out of college and in the "real world" so I bought a toyota corolla that looks pretty nice.

I want to wax it but I heard that you're not suppose to wax the bumpers and side view mirrors since it's painted plastic and not steel?

  1. You can probably wax the bumper but the windows never wax clean your windows with none smear windex. It will look so crystal clear.

  2. Any bare plastic, textured or not, any vinyl molding or any window (or other) gaskets.  You can wax them, but the wax will get in there and it is next to impossible to remove.

  3. You also need to stay away from any rubber/plastic trim .It is usually black?? and stay away from the cracks where the pieces come together[hood/fenders edges] as the wax turns white in these places... ask the guy at the parts house which is better and wont turn white once you wash it... Some easy sprays  are made to shine without buildup.... good luck

  4. When you wax the vehicle you are applying wax onto the paint. The material underneath doesn't matter. Go ahead and wax everything painted with the body color. Modern vehicle bodies are made of various materials.

Black plastic mirrors and trim can benefit from a coat of wax too, but is not required. There's two approaches to that. Either wax them, or use a silicone product on them like other plastic and rubber surfaces. Black plastic mirrors for example are not painted and are often made of ABS.

Textured bumpers and trim should not be waxed. The wax fills in the depressions and is difficult to remove, creating a film and dull surface. Keep wax off of door and window seals, same reason.

  5. the seats

  6. yeah don't wax those two things also don't wax the seats or windshield.
