What payment methods are most cost effective for a new internet site?

I have looked into online transactions but to accept credit/debit cards directly would cost £200 plus £20 per month, I am not willing to do that straight away, so what are the best alternatives, is PayPal worth the fees here too?

I think PayPal is the best alternative for new sites, because a lot of people have this account for doing their online transaction and also it's quite handy.

Pay Pay is a pain in the a ss,and is owned by Ebay.All your customers would have to get a Pay Pal account. I think that is alot to ask.
