What percent of people like to read?

I was talking to my friend about how I like to read, and she thinks that not that many people like to read. So I just want to show her that she's wrong.

She's wrong. I love to read because reading takes my mind away from the every day stresses of the day. And it also takes me into the story and sees what the writer sees.and before you know it a few hours has past.. now that's good reading.

I can't read fiction books because I don't have the concentration.  However, I do like to increase my knowledge with general facts and history etcetera, so I do like reading non-fictional books like Guinness World Records, history encyclopaedias and science books.

I'm reading now..Doesn't that count..I had to read alot to get my medical job.

I only read..online now.

I don't know statistically but I do think that the joy of reading is dying with younger folks.  I'm 50 and I love to read.  Most of my 40 something friends enjoy it too.  I have friends who are in their mid and late 30's and some won't read a book to save their lives.  It wouldn't surprise me if the love of recreational reading is even more sparse in teens and 20 somethings.
