Stats say between 10-15%, but I think that it may even be a little higher... there are still parents and teachers out there who feel the need to &quot;change&quot; the hand the child writes with if it is not the right hand. In addition, use of the left hand (in some countries) for anything other than tasks like using the bathroom/wiping/flushing is considered horrible... think of how many of them may have been born right-handed yet could not let anyone know!

According to a recent journal I read, only about 7% of the world population is left handed.   The only reason I give three hoots is because most of the rock stars I love and admire are/were left handed.  

Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney and Freddie Mercury among them.  

Freddie Mercury was taught to write with his right hand in his boarding school in India, because back in the day in those countries --- especially India --- they refused to allow students to use their left hands.  

They used to think it was either the sign of the devil or rebellion against society!  What a shame.

Left-handedness, in comparison to the general population, also appears to occur more frequently in both identical and fraternal twins, and several groups of individuals with neurological disorders (such as people with epilepsy, Down&#039;s Syndrome, autism, mental retardation and dyslexia). I think roughly speaking, 1/3 of the people are left handed.  And of that 1/3, 1/3 have a dominant right brain hemisphere, 1/3 have left hemisphere, and 1/3 don&#039;t have a dominant hemisphere.  My prof called it the 1/3 rule or something.
