What percent of the world lacks plumbing?

A friend of mine said two thirds but we weren't sure.

  1. Sorry, I don't know, but since the question has been up for a long time unanswered, I thought I'd suggest trolling around on the United Nations web site. I bet you can find it there, somewhere.

    Of course, it would be an estimate, but probably a pretty good one.


  2. I think it's more. the U.S. is probably 33%. Do you consider well water and a septic tank plumbing?

    The Census Bureau categorizes U.S. wastewater disposal into three types: public sewer, septic tank or cesspool, and "other" means, such as privies and outhouses. In large communities (those with more than 10,000 people) almost 93 percent of the housing units are connected to a public sewer, 7 percent use septic tanks or cesspools, and 0.3 percent use other means .
