What percentage are the Dow and S&P down from the beginning of the year, Jan.1, 2008, to July 18, 2008?

As mentioned, I am interested in the percentage drop for each of these indexes.

  1. The Dow opened on Jan 1, 2008 at 13,261.82, and closed on July 18, 2008 at 11,496.57, so it is down 1,765.25, a percentage drop of ~13.3%.

    The S&P500 opened on Jan 1, 2008 at 1,378.55 , and closed on July 18, 2008 at 1,260.68 , so it is down 117.87, a percentage drop of ~8.6%.

    Unless you firmly believe the world is about grind to a halt, (which I don't),  this seems to me like a good time to be buying DIA or SPY, the ETFs that track these two indices.
