What percentage do volcanoes cover Peru?

I'm really curious about this question. I know that mountains cover up 40%, what about volcanoes?

  2. less than 10 percent of peru is covered with volcanoes. i think the exact number was 5 percent.

  3. I agree with less than 5% and among those volcanoes, the great majority are extinct. They are located in the southern part of the peruvian andes mountain ridge and the only one in activity is the UBINAS volcano in the Moquegua state:

    If you observe this map of active volcanoes in south america, you will see that there are active volcanoes in every part of the Andes Mountains except for a considerable portion of Peru. Why is this? . . . .  only God knows, but still we have as much earthquakes as the rest of the continent.

    The most famous peruvian active volcano is the Misti (Arequipa) it's always coughin up fumes, not smoke really but vapors of water & sulfur. The last known eruption is dated between 1440-1470, coincidently the same time Macchu Picchu was built.
