  1. Depends. I have 21% taken out of mine....Thats about average for claiming no dependants I think. The percentage drops the more dependants you have.


  2. There is Federal income tax, state (and sometimes city) income tax, social security taxes, retirement contributions, and other contributions. Total deductions could be between 20 and 50%. Even higher is some cases.

    If you don't know how to figure percentages, ask your employer what percentage is withheld.

    The percentage varies according to many factors:  What is your actual wage?  How many deductions are you claiming?  Are you single or married?  And many other questions.  

    There is no set percentage for everyone.
