At the currrent efficiency levels of vehicles, ethanol fuel E85 efficiency and farming productivity, what percentage of America's farm land and how many total acres are needed for corn production to replace our current national gasoline consumption with E85 fuel consumption?

  1. We would have to convert all of the farm land and approximately 90%+ of the total land area of the US into corn fields to produce enough. Not to mention E85 decreases fuel-economy by 15-30%.


  2. The earth does not have enough open farming land to grow corn for ethanol and produce food. Corn is one of the worst plants to create ethanol from. If we wanted to use something in the US that is proven to work we would use methane from cattle barns, palm oil, sugar, or rapeseed oil.
