What percentage of English speakers speak American English?

Question

I saw a percentage that of native English speakers, almost 90% spoke American English. I am looking for statistics.

I know that the number is not that high.

The Wikipedia article on American English says that "approximately two-thirds of native speakers of English live in the United States."  That figure would be around 66%, which sounds more accurate.

I'm still looking in the meantime...
