Question:

What percentage of a nutrient actually makes it into the blood stream?

I am at the moment drinking a liquid with huge amounts of nutrients added. One claim it makes is that for every 100ml it provides 200% (I know you can't have 200%, but that's what is stated on the bottle) of my daily recommended amount of Vitamin C. But I am left wondering how much of that actually avoids being broken down and makes it in to the blood stream?

The Bottle gives the above measurement as per 100ml, the bottle is 500ml, if the large majority of the Vitamin C actually makes it through to the blood am I doing myself harm by drinking the bottle?

  1. Hey dude, Nice to see ya! About 90-95% of al nutrients are effectively absorbed into the bloodstream.

90% of 200 % = 180%. This means the bottle contains more than 180% of your reccomended daily amount (rda).

This is very risky because it disturbs the metabolic proccesses in the body.

I gaurantee if you drink that bottle espect weight gain, diarrhea, headaches and all sorts of problems.  The body does not eliminate excess goods!!

Don't drink that drink. You can drink say.. a quarter of the bottle (to be safe) everyday, no more!

  2. Do you think so? You don't even know what form of Vit C it is. Some are more susceptible to oxidation than other forms. Also, Vit C is water soluble. Your body easily excretes excess water soluble vitamins through your urine.
