I'm just wondering if anyone knows how many children stay in the adoption/foster system until they reach adulthood.

  1. I don't know myself - but you could look over this blog - by a child relinquished for adoption - but ended up aging out in foster care.

If you search around the blog - I'm sure you'll find some figures there.

  2. Too many!   Children who really need homes are overlooked by adoptive parents 'cos they want 'a baby' It's such a shame that this happens.

Some adoptive parents even go abroad to get 'their baby' rather than adopt from the foster care system.  It's shameful

  3. I'm sure if you visited www.fostercarealumni.org << org or com, can't remember, but its one of those, that they could give you a better account of the children who grow up in the system. Better than myself. I have read many reports, but sadly there really isn't up to date info on this that i have found as of late.

good luck!! if you find the real answer out would you please post it or contact me as I would love to know the answer and your sources :)

  4. I don't know the % and I am assuming that you are just talking about children in the U.S. But there are about 135,000 children in the foster care system in the U.S. waiting to be adopted. Most are older or have a special need. Most of the children who are adopted do have successful adoptions in that the families state that they are happy with the placement. Adoption is preferable to foster care because everyone wants a family to love them.
