  1. yeah, intasesa basically answered it all,

but yes, he lived in the 12th century, in england, and he is considered the Father of English Literature.

he was the first writer to write in english, rather than french or latin, while showing proficiency in the language as  a literary medium.

(way before shakespeare- just to put things in perspective)

and he wrote in middle english (shakespeare and moliere are considered modern) so it is impossible for modern english speaker to understand his work today without studying middle english linguistics, or finding a translation.

he did write the canterbury tales.

he was also a philosopher, diplomat, lawyer?, poet, and who knows what else..

AND NOW, for my favorite part.....Paul Bettany plays him in "A Knights Tale", an awesome movie with Heath Ledger, r.i.p.

    hope that helped =)

  2. Chaucer wrote during the fourteenth century (1300s) and is a Mediaeval writer.

His language was called Middle English.

His best known work is "The Canterbury Tales" which he wrote around 1371-1378.

    And I like him.

    :-)
