  1. Do you mean 2nd grade?

I believe in crafting a set of norms/rules that students and teachers co create for the classroom. That is usually signed by all and posted for all to see.

I also have a job chart that stays up all year. Granted the jobs and students change weekly but it still stays up.

I also put up birthdays - fun to have.

Number lines - essential in math

Daily Schedules - Kids need to know what to expect

    Calendar and activities surrounding that.

Ways to pick a book - 5 finger rule as a reminder on finding a

    "just right" book.

  2. 1) Birthday board, 'our class' board...something that is individual to your group and your children! Something about 'them'.

    2) A rule board-with visuals to prompt them!

    3) Maybe a board with the weeks aims on it-this week we aim to learn about.....

    4) A board with spellings-words they may need regulary...or a prompt board-'remember i before e except after c', 'have you checked your punctuation' etc.

  3. I believe that it depends on the children in the classroom. Last year I was in a class of children who were to put it simple challenging so we had many things on the wall which related to reward systems. One I think that every class should have is class rules, although it is usually better to make these up with your class over the first few days so they do not feel as if they are being told what they must do, it is agreed with them. Then, with this, you can use a reward system where if they stick to that rule for a week, they have their name put up next to the rule they stuck to and then at the end of the term their names can be raffled for a prize!

We also had a number line along one wall, and a hundred square, but it depends on what you use to teach children. Oh yeah, we also had a list of what the markings in the childs book meant for them to refer to (for example # means should be a capital letter, * means have you missed a word here?) Hope this helps!

  4. Always have a VCOP board up if your school follow Ros Wilson's scheme.  Then i would make sure i had the 2, 5 and 10 times tables up to begin with (autumn) then 3 and 4 times tables for more able.  Try and get as many areas of the curriculum displayed as possible and be creative displays arn't just for boards! Hang from ceiling, curtain rail, window fastens, have string cornerings everywhere and make sure outside the classroom (doorway) is just as attractive.  Children do appreciate it!  But make sure you discuss displays with the children so they are aware of purpose and reason in case ofsted arrive - they tend to question the children about these small things!
