  1. I believe there are two: Thomas Jefferson for obvious reasons, the Declaration of Independence, and Johan Gutenberg, the inventor of the modern commercial printing press. Without him, books would be reserved only for the wealthy and without books, much knowledge would not be able to be shared efficiently.

  2. Not the people who feature in history, but the historians who have put the who, what, where, when, why and how together. People do and have done what they feel and felt that they have to do - not in light of history, but their own circumstances. It is the historians that delve into the lives of a billion people and make patterns out them that give us a sense of where we came from.

It is ironic that I cannot offer you the name of an heroic historian as readily as they gave the names of the heroes to us.

  3. I would say Abraham Lincoln because he freed the slaves.

  4. Thomas Jefferson for the declaration of independance

  5. King George III of England. Without his tyranny the American colonists would not have rebelled against England to gain and build their own country. The American Revolution was the one defining event in U.S. history and everything else follows from that.
