  1. I've actually started noticing some of these recently. Please don't take offense if you find any to be negative beause they are just generalizations and are inherently false.

Bassists are really laid back, but they're definately not slackers. They tend to be somehow akward or slightly insecure, but they are really nice and genial people. I have a lot of bassist friends.

Violinists are very self-obsessed, they appear to believe the world revolves around them, although sometimes it actually does. They work really hard.

Cellists can be melodramatic, in a nice way or an obnoxious way.

Violists somehow make the fact that they are violists a huge part of their identity.

Clarinetists are nerds, but they come in a wide variety of nerdy flavors.

Guitarists may seem ambivilent at times but they are not.

The vast majority of pianists I know, including myself, exhibit signs of  OCD. The good ones are underappreciated and the mediocre ones are overappreciated.

    Trumpets are loud.

  2. Trombone players tend to be more quirky, more sexual, and powerful socially.

Trumpet players are prideful, independent. And the best :-P They also tend to hate the sound of french horns and clarinets.

Flute players are similar to trumpets, but a little more stuck up and quieter ;) Very feminine and/or wallflowers

Oboes are quieter people who stand out more than flutes.

    Tubas are quiet as well.

French horns have good personalities, decent social skills.

Sax players are like trumpets minus the pride ;) Usually cool guys who dress down

Piano players are hard workers who don't get enough credit most of the time

Percussionists are just stupid most of the time ;) Although some are very talented, intelligent, and great people.

  3. I'm a music major on oboe and piccolo.

I got voted most unique in HS and have never met an oboist who was a conformist.

Flute players usually are just there for the dredit and there's way too many.

Every piccoloist I've met is dedicated because it's not something you just do if your not confident.

I've never heard a trombonist talk, male or female.

    Clarinets you get all kids.

Alto sax is just an easy instrument to play. Usually jazz people.

Trumpet guys are usually athletic, the girls are in the section to stare at the guys.

Percussionists are there because they can't read melodic music and have long hair.

Pianists I have found to have no personality and are usually very boring.

String people are a whole separate category that you cannot snap them out of

  4. Er, what?

Do you think each instrument has a cluster of a particular personality playing it?

That's a little off the wall...

  5. the oboeists i know are highly spiritual & overly inteelectual.

flute players; have a rep for being ditzy that is not really deserved-most that i know are charachter assassins! (piccolo players want to take over the world)

clarinet players are an odd bunch-everything from class clown to perfectionists to lazy sods,...

sax? well lets just say they are oversaxed!

horn; brightest players in band & victim of some of the cruelest band geek jokes

trumpet players; think they are god

trombonists; introverted pervs who eventually become bombastic

baritone & tuba; the true super heroes

drummers; intelligent extroverted pervs who would rule the world (if their girlfriends let them)

guitarists; some are worse than trumpet players

    violinists; anal retentive trombone haters!

cellists; the true soul of the orchestra

how about band directors?; most of the ones i know started out on low brass

(most cops i know played brass or drums in school)

  6. I had never thought about it... but I think you may be on to something.  I'm no psychiatrist, but I have noticed some correlation between instrument and player.. just never actually gave it serious thought.

Clarinets are laid back people with great attitudes and a sense of humor... Flutes and Piccolo player are a bit stuffy... Trombones are scatterbrains.. tubas are usually overweight.. Sax players are good old boys... Bill Clinton plays a Sax... Percussion are aggressive people with little sense of humor... Piano players are no-nonsense types.. the tend to be obsessive-compulsive (I started on Piano and still play it, remember)..

THEN we get to the strings... Harp players are social butterfly's.. Guitar pickers are laid back... have a sense of humor... and are the most anti-establishment (I also play guitar, remember)... Banjo players probably have a rap sheet taller than they are.. Dulcimer players are the perennial hippies... recorder players are usually women who can't play any other instrument but want to be with their husbands... who play the Dulcimer.

Drums... easily the most gregarious and a close tie to Bass players.

what do you think... did I hit it close or did I hit close?
