  1. U shud get a chinchilla and name it........Peter!

  2. You should find out what the life expectancy of each is.  How much care they need, how much social time they need, if you have the time.  How to keep them clean, their temperment.  I'd go to a pet shop and ask.

  7. get a hedgehog and name it sonic =]

  8. Hedgehogs are better suited to the wild. They aren't great pets and its unfair to them.. a chincilla on the other hand is a lovely pet. I've had one for years. If treated well and looked after properly they're perfect =] They sit on you shoulder and take baths in (special) sand. They're also extremely soft unlike the hedgehog!

  9. CHINCHILLA... THERE GREAT PETS.

  16. Chinchilla Pros and Cons:

They can live 15 - 20 years; great if you are willing to take on that responsibility, not if you have a short attention span.

They require lots of space (a huge, escape proof cage) and lots of safe chew toys. The initial cost is high but their food needs little variety and is relatively cheap. They also need a constant supply of timothy hay.

They are active at night and early morning and sleep during the day; good if you have a job or go to school. If you get a wheel though, they can make noise at night.

They cannot tolerate heat and need a room temperature around 72 - 76 degrees.

They are becoming more popular as pets, therefore more and more veterinarians specialize in exotic animals and much is known about their habits, diet, care, and diseases.

They're so soft and cuddly! (But only like to be held and pet when they are fully socialized.) They are also very social and love to be with other chinchillas.

They are very clean animals, and only require a dust bath several times a week to maintain their fur. This is extremely cute to watch! They are also herbivores; their f***s will not stink, though their urine will.

Some can be potty-trained, others cannot, but generally will only defecate in one or two specific areas within the cage.

They are very intelligent, social, interactive, and hyper animals that will prove to be full of energy. However, they are pretty fragile and improper handling can cause many health problems and even death.

    Hedgehog Pros and Cons:

They can live around 5-6 years, which is fine if you have a short attention span.

They are also exotic animals, and are not becoming popular as fast as the chinchilla; many veterinarians still do not treat this animal.

There are many conflicting sources of information regarding diet, housing, and general care.

They are insectivores, meaning they eat bugs, and some sources say live insects should be fed. Their f***s may smell a little... They also need variety in their diet.

They are also shy, nocturnal animals, and need lots of patience to socialize. They can be held, but be sure that a hedgehog is tame before attempting to hold it; a tame hedgehog will relax its quills and they will not harm you. If you hold it when it is not used to you, their quills can hurt pretty badly.

They also require a pretty large cage, but it must be escape proof as they are good climbers. They can also be potty-trained.

They prefer to be solitary, so you don't need to get another hedgehog. However, this may trickle down to you, the owner, and it may not seem that your hedgehog likes to interact with you.

They don't mind water; they actually like to swim! It's awfully cute if you place a hedgehog in a bathtub with a low level of water it in; they will "doggy-paddle" and even float on their backs!

SO. In conclusion, both pets are shy, and require lots of patience to tame. They are also both cute and cuddly (hedgehogs' bellies are so soft!).

But when you do tame them, chinchillas seem to be a lot more interactive and inquisitive; and will prove to be very loving. Their diet is very simple and straightforward, and it is pretty easy to get veterinarian care for them.

As a long-time chinchilla owner and a hedgehog baby-sitter, I would say that I'm a little biased, but when I compare the cold-hard facts, I would still recommend the chinchilla.

Hope that wasn't too long; good luck! Whatever your choice, you will have a fascinating, lovable pet.

  17. Get a hedgehog. Look at it this way; would you rather have a sweet spiky animal rolling around your place, or some stupid rat-looking thing which sleeps all day?
