My grandfather filed a petition for my dad here in the Philippines and I'd like to know if his petition is currently in process. Where can I find this information?

  1. http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bullet...

Check the visa bulletin at the link above.

Right now they are processing January of 1985 assuming your father is 3rd preference (married son).

  2. Look at the receipt notice he got after he filed the petition. it has a receipt notice. You can go to www.uscis.gov and check the status of the petition- whether petition is approved or not.

If the petition is not approved, then looking at visa bulletin does not mean anything.

If it is, then look at visa bulletin.

You can sign up to get the petition processing updates as well as visa bulletin updates every month as well.

Keep in mind that your grandfather keeps his address current with the immigration.

Also note that if your grandfather passes away, the petition will not be good any more.

Lastly, whether you can immigrate with your dad or not, depends on when the petition was filed, when the petition was approved, when the visa number is available and how old are you and whether you are single or married.
