  3. Well, you can try to EARN the phone you want.

Doing something for your parents, such as getting good grades and doing your chores, is a good way to grease the squeaky wheel towards what you want.

Or, go get a job and pay for it yourself.

It will make you feel good knowing that you worked to earn it honestly.

Once you have a way to earn the phone you want, you just merely go to your wireless dealer and request an upgrade to a new phone, which may renew your contract requiring you to stick with your service provider for 1-2 years since the upgrade.

The phones by themselves cost A LOT. For instance, getting the $1 phone is only $1 if you sign a contract to stay with the service for a couple of years. Otherwise, the retail price for the $1 phone is actually about $150, give or take a few bucks. You may have gotten your KRZR for about $50 or so, but try getting the same phone WITHOUT the contract, which will set you back around $300 or so!

The idea is that a percentage of the profit collected from your monthly payments goes toward paying off the difference of the phone's cost as well as ensuring that you will stay with the service provider, providing them a virtually guaranteed money stream until the expiration of the contract or if you decide to renege on the contract by canceling your service prematurely, which subjects you to an expensive early termination penalty as well as either paying the full cost of the phone or surrendering it to the service provider.

Either that or, if your service is GSM (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.), pay the full retail price for a new phone (VERY expensive) and transfer your SIM card from your old phone to your new phone. Otherwise, you'll also have to pay to transfer over to the new phone if you use CDMA (Verizon, Alltel, etc.) or PCS (MetroPCS, Sprint, etc) services.

OR, just stick with the phone you have right now. If it works and looks decent (and the KRZR is a nice phone), why change?

  4. Oh my.
