  1. Hello,

I am in Germany...a few hours is dificult to see a lot..but pick and choose from here:

Düsseldorf's hallmark is the upmarket Königsallee The old quarter has quaint passageways, old churches, traditional brewpubs, bars and restaurants and is also very much on the "must see" list. Düsseldorf's attractive riverside promenade runs alongside the old quarter to the Media Harbour, which world-class architects such as Frank Gehry have transformed into an architectural showcase.

    or...

    Historical old quarter

Düsseldorf's old quarter still has wonderful original cobbles over which Elector Jan Wellem is said have ridden in the 17th century. With its quaint passageways, old churches, traditional brewpubs, bars and restaurants, it is an absolute must for any visitor. It is also home of the "longest bar in the world" - around 260 traditional bars and cosy brewpubs.

    Benrath Palace

Elector Karl Theodor built the summer residence and hunting lodge to the south of Düsseldorf in the 18th century. The remarkable ensemble of palace and park forms an architectural synthesis of great cultural-historical importance. It is one of the leading examples of its kind.

"Axis of art" with the NRW art gallery

All of Düsseldorf's leading art institutions are lined up on a stretch just 800 metres long: Art Museum, Art Palace, Art Academy, Kunsthalle art gallery and art association and the North-Rhine Westphalia Art Gallery.

  2. As far as I remember, the bus station is right next to the main train station so you are right in the middle of the city. Take the subway to the Heinrich-Heine-Straße stop. When you resurface, ask someone to point you in the direction of the Altstadt (historical old town).

Depending on the time of day, you may want to try a glass of the signature local brew, Altbier. There are quite a few small breweries with joint bars, I'd recommend Uerige

In the Altstadt, you can also buy some local specialties like Loewensenf mustard (there's a whole little shop dedicated to it which offers some varieties that are definitely too hot for me).

Then you walk a few more steps to the river Rhine, have a look at the old Schlossturm tower and, if you like, walk alongside the river to the state parliament. That's the same direction as the television tower, which you can go up in for a view over the city.

If you still have some time on your hands, walk on to the "Medienhafen" area and admire the three futuristic buildings by Frank J. Gehry.

Alternatively, you can go for a stroll along Königsallee, which is where a lot of rich people in ridiculous outfits do their shopping. You can windowshop at the designer stores, but their are also the usual shops in places like the Schadowarkaden mall nearby.

And finally, if you want to do something completely different: Take a tram to Benrath castle on the outskrits of Duesseldorf. Put on felt slippers and slide through the beautiful rooms.

Then walk through the garden whith its gorgeous old trees. If you continue all the way through the park, you'll eventually end up at the river Rhine again. It's not far to a place where a ferry

takes you across the river to historic Zons, an old fortified village that is quaint and idyllic. Walk along the city walls and throw a few coins into a slot to make the old Windmill run again.

    Enjoy your trip!
