I like Mars.

Oh Dwarf planets, Asteroids, Moons can count as well.

  1. Europa, a moon of Jupiter.  Scientists speculate that underneath Europa's icy surface lies a giant ocean of liquid water warmed by tidal forces and geothermal activity.

Not too long ago, scientists thought all life on earth ultimately derived its life sustaining energy from the sun.  But then we discovered life at the bottom of the ocean, far away from sunlight in pitch darkness thriving along geothermal vents and nutrient rich waters.

It's this possibility of similar life on Europa that intrigues me.  Not to mention in Arthur C. Clarke's 2010, we are warned by the Monolith, "All these worlds are yours except Europa. Attempt no landings there."

  2. The human race should go for planet Mercury first because it serves a a good ground for

1 possible giant mirror satellites for Venus

2 possible temporary antimatter harvest from the Mother Earths Sun

3 possible iron harvest from its core with a tether getting the silicates and iron to space

4 possible parraterraforming of the planet Mercury by living underground

    5 Solar sail launch pad

  3. Well, earth is pretty nice for living on, but I'm guessing you're not looking for that particular answer.

My answer (probably just like everyone else's) is certainly biased, which is what it should be, when asked an opinion.

Jupiter by far has been the most fascinating to me.  So many attributes, and observations of it have led to the confirmations of so many things.

From the days of Galileo, proving that something orbited an object that was not the earth.

To it's incredibly fast rotational speed (10 hour days, yo!) which create an observable noticeable oblatness to it.

It's sheer mass alone is almost unfathomably intimidating.  Along with  it's influence an all objects with mass in it's vicinity.

The brightest object in our sky that is capable of staying up all night long!

The ease it is to view it's four large moons and track their orbits, even as an amateur.

And watching the eclipses of the moons.

But like I said, it's a very biased answer.  Saturn is amazing to see through a telescope.  The allure of Mars has been entrenched in the minds of humans for centuries.  Venus, relatively our size, having observable phases and a retrograde rotation make that one very interesting.  Uranus and Neptune are still quite new, and if it wasn't for Voyager 1 and 2, our limited knowlege of them would be even more limited.  Mercury has it's immense closeness to the sun, and transits can be fun to watch, plus it's quick orbit make you really appreciate how fast it's really trucking.

But, all that being said, I like Jupiter the best... but perhaps it's due to the fact I've studied it more in depth than any of the others.

  4. Mars

ppl talk so much about it

water on the planet, life on Mars, and so on

  5. venus Really

  6. Planet Earth

  7. Well if moons count, then I would have to say Europa is my favorite object  in the solar system. I guess I'm a tad obsessed with it... its my computer background, and the wallpaper on my cell phone. I think the reason why I like it most is because it was the first Galilean moon I was able to identify through my telescope.

As for planets.... thats a hard one.... I find all of them equally interesting, but my favorite planet is Neptune.... but my favorite planet to look at is Saturn. Its complicated: I like to look at Saturn the most because that was the first planet I found through my telescope, but Neptune is my favorite planet because I like its color.

For dwarf planets, probably Sedna. Pluto used to be, but then it kind of got old.

As for asteroids, I don't care for those so much. I probably couldn't pick an asteroid for my favorite.

EDIT: Whoo hoo "Wise Guy" agrees with me!

  8. Earth

the rest are pretty boring compared to it

    no offense Europa fans
