  1. I believe only Mercury and Venus are visible because of the back lighting from the sun.


  2. If you have a good low western horizon, you should be able to see Mars, and Venus just after sunset, with Mercury right below Venus. Saturn is down there too, but probably too close to the Sun to see. Jupiter dominates the southern sky for most of the night. Neptune and Uranus rise in the late evening, and are visible the rest of the night.
