Question:

What plant would be good for shady areas?

My sister has her room at the end of the house, and when you look out her window you see this huge fence. Her window is fairly small, so you dont get much light.

But outside her window there is weeds which we will dig out. My family want to know what plants have lots of colour (so flowers or leaves) that have the colour right through winter and summer, autumn and spring and that grow/like shady areas?

Please tell us we really want to know!

  1. Hostas... there are many varieties and you could mix them together.


  2. Hosta is great for shady areas.  I have serveral along the back (north side) of my house.  They don't have to be babied. . . just sit there and look pretty!

  3. Astilbe.  Japanese painted fern. Coral Bells (Huechera).  Impatiens.  Camelias...Azaleas.  Fushias.

  4. Weeping Forsynthias are one of the many great plants to grow in shady area's. This is where they thrive most. They are yellow, and grow beautiful flowers. They make for lovely flowers to pick and keep around the house in vases.
