What plants and/or trees are most efficient in processing CO2?

Just curious of which plants and/or trees are the most efficient in processing CO2 into O2, and which ones are able to process the most in a 24 hour period.

I'm guessing it would be the leafiest trees.

CO2 is processed via photosynthesis, which relies on photosynthetic, chlorophyll filled cells. A plant which has the most photosynthesizing surface area will have many broad leaves. As an analogy, solar panels are made to have lots of surface area so they can collect a maximum amount of energy. You wouldn't have solar strips (think pine needles) or turn them vertical (like cactus) because you WANT your panels exposed to the sun.

Additionally, I would pick trees over herbs (soft stemmed plants) because the density of tree trunks means more carbon had to go into forming wood. Carbon which is stored as tree wood means less carbon out roaming around as CO2.
