  1. Zooplankton may eat the smaller photosynthetic plankton ( the phytoplankton or microphyte algae). However some eat bacteria that include the photosynthetic cyanobacteria.

    However technically neither algae nor cyanobacteria are plants as the Kingdoms are now defined even though they are photosynthetic. Algae are now part of the Protista while cyanobacteria are part of the Eubacteria.
