  1. Derrek Lee this year, hes batting around 300 has 17 HR, and 70ish RBI, but hes grounded into the most double plays on the planet

  2. ryan howard's average is very bad and he strikes out a lot as well, but he does hit a lot of home runs and gets a lot of RBIs which makes me confused. another playe just like that is richie sexton, hits lots of homers but has a below .220 batting average, not as much RBIs though.

  3. He also is tied for mos homers in the NL...The Dbacks know what they are getting....

  4. Not sure that Dunn is a very good example. I understand the large K totals and iffy ave. but guys like him can change the complex of any game with one swing. Plus guys will pitch differently to him, therefore they will also change the way they may attack the hitter directly in front of him and should he reach base it also affects the way they might pitch to the guy behind him. It is painful sometimes to watch these free swinging guys but their presence can make a world of difference for all their obvious flaws. More counterproductive in my mind is the large K guys who hit at the top of the order. OBP is huge with the top 2 hitters in lineups but there are major league teams that use them there anyways based on the threat of speed.Other than a few catchers whose only value is their ability to call a great game I dont think there are really any counterproductive players in the bigs. Some obviously are better than others and that is why they are floundering at the bottom of the standing but free swinging HR threats are really not counterproductive. Just look at how many RBI Dunn gets every year....he might not hit a lot but he hits when it matters.
