Question:

What pleco fits best for 20 Gallon?

I'm i got a 20 gallon tank that I'm setting up. I thinking about adding a convict and some tough tetras. I was wondering what kind of pleco would fit best? i was thinking about a Bristle nose but it says the need at least a 30 gallon. Any Help?

  1. Any that will go in a 30 should be fine in a 20 for a while.


  2. All plecos get large, if properly cared for.  however, they are pretty slow growers.  Check with your lfs (local fish store) to see if they will take fish for credit, that way you can get a small one and return it for credit when it is too large.

    i am also going to caution you against keeping any kind of non cichlid with convicts.  they are territorial, and they are cichlids.  if you happen to get a mating pair--forget it the tetras are history.  breeding convicts have been known to take down full grown oscars.  

    however, convicts are very interesting to  watch, and will breed on their own.  i suggest that you build yourself a convict only tank, i can guarantee that it will be worth your time.
