Don't say "immediately you smoke it."

There are artists, philosophers, psychologists, etc who smoke it, but how often does one smoke it before you start feeling stupid, rather than intelligent?

BTW - not a personal question.

  6. after 8 th grade.  haha!

  7. Probably when you start to get the symptoms of being "perma fried"

which means your eyes always look like your high, and you have slower reaction times and stuff. Just a guess :P

  8. I am a cell & molecular biologist who smokes over 35 grams weekly due to medical reasons: Type 1 diabetes, neuropathy, gastroparesis, possible epilepsy.  Between school, running my own medical marijuana research lab, part dispensary owner, board member to 2 non-profits, my brain is capable of multi-tasking, memorizing, and performing exceptionally well(even if my body doesn't:).  The marijuana I use is high quality genetics, grown aeroponically, with specifically titrated nutrients from individual sources, not a cheap store bought mix.  It can reasonably be assumed the medicine I use is of the higher potency strains out there.

All that being said as an example of some one being able to function, we all know the stereotypical, amotivated, munchie grubbing pothead.  Personally I believe that marijuana is a potentiator vs other drugs that have more specific effects, ie caffeine, cocaine, speed= stimulant, valium, barbituates, alcohol = depressants.  If a person is lazy in nature, they will naturally enjoy the relaxed effects of marijuana and become more lazy.  If a person is motivated, driven, and social, it may exacerbate these feelings as well.

Heres the tricky part.  Marijuana has about 78 unique chemical compounds, called cannabinoids.  THC is the cannabinoid responsible for causing the euphoric "high" sought by recreational users.  Pure THC by itself is a stimulant, increasing heart rate, metabolism, and induces vasodilation.  Ironically, pure THC often can cause vomitting and nausea, temporary psychosis, and anxiety attacks.  Clinical trials combining THC with the second most abundant cannabinoid, CBD (cannabidiol), causing increased activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (causes relaxation, sedation), increases anti -anxiety, -depressant, and -psychotic properties.  The term for new effects created from combining 2 or more drugs, that would not occur from either drug alone, is called synergy.

THC, like Alzheimer's, has memory loss associated with a decrease in acetylcholine in very specific nuclei of the limbic system and temporal lobes.  CBD and several chemicals belonging to the family called terpenoids, all have the potential to increase ACh and thereby beneficially affect the detrimental memory impairments of pure THC.

Now heres where things get confusing.  Redundancy, or having multiple pathways of connection between nerve cells allowing for a more diverse signal to be relayed, is called plasticity.  Contrary to many people's beliefs, marijuana does not destroy neurons, at least in normal smokable doses.  In fact, marijuana increases synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus, a brain structure controlling numerous emotional responses.  However, a few studies have found THC to be neurotoxic.  One must consider concentrations of chemicals in these studies, which utilize such high doses of THC, one could not achieve them by smoking without possessing a minimum of 12 lungs and 6 mouths.

And now there's the newly investigated cannabinoid THCV, which also causes psychoactivity, more potent but shorter in duration than THC.  Based on my own observations and knowledge of the current research, I believe that THCV is associated with the "creative" motivation found in some marijuana strains.  These would be high % sativas of near equitorial origin, with virtually no CBD.

So theres the confusing science behind it, and my personal opinion based on the data!

  9. Many people smoke it every day and manage to have productive lives. But I don't think everyone could do that. It varies with the individual.
