hello, i am looking to buy some police strobes for my car. I have been looking on the internet and cant find any rules reguarding color, or type. I am thinking about getting Wig-Wags, Hide-a-way Strobes for the turnsignals, and some visor lights. I live in Indiana, and are not sure what color i should get to be legal. I am NOT a first responder, police, or EMT yet. I would like to get Red and blue lights, but i think they might be illegal. Any Advice?

  1. You may NOT own blue, or even red lights. You are limited to Yellow or White.

  2. I found this about IN. ---- Red are for regular emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. Private vehicles such as an ambulance by a private company require a red light permit. Red and blue are used on police vehicles. Volunteer fire fighters use blue lights.

Basically, you could probably put whatever lights you want in your vehicle, if you activate them then you're looking at problems.

  3. None are legal. Why are you trying to imitate the police? That's illegal in itself.

You can't had red or blue lights of any sort. Putting strobes in your headlights or getting an Amber light for the top of your car are also illegal, unless you are in a position where they are required, such as a contractor where you will be pulled to the side of the road often.

My advice? Don't buy any lights. Soooo not cool anyway. :)
