I need to write a paper arguing for a political change. I am just looking for a few ideas to choose from so any serious topic you can think of would be appreciated.

10 ANSWERS

  1. Argue for dumping the POLITICIANS & voting in constitutionally based REPRESENTATIVES.  Congressman Ron Paul would be a good example for a case in study.

  2. sadan husnane

  3. Eliminating all restrictions to ballot access.  These ballot access laws have allowed virtual monopoly of the Republican/Democrat party(ies).  Under the current political system, we have one political party with two wings (a conservative wing and a liberal wing).

With all due respect to a previous poster, I do not believe having guaranteed health insurance would improve the already inefficient, anti-disease prevention, insurance system.

What needs to be done there is to abolish the government mandated employer group plans.  This is government interference and government subsidization of health care.  If this was done, it would end all group plans, forcing individuals to purchase their own insurance.  It would force insurance companies to actually compete in a free market for insurance, something which does not exist under the current system.

  4. How the elections are financed and run and how the votes are counted. (NO MACHINES without absolute paper back-ups.)

  5. Electoral reform.

Here's my idea for changing the way we elect our president.

Have an entry fee of 5 million dollars to be an official candidate.  As much money as people are raising in this election, that shouldn't be a problem, and it would be a high enough fee to keep out the kooks.

There are no primaries.  Instead, all the candidates that pay the fee by the deadline are given 6 months to criss-cross the country campaigning.  Then we have the first round of a nation-wide vote.  The top 4 vote getters move on to the second round, regardless of party.  For example, you might end up with 2 democrats and 2 republicans, or maybe 3 dems and 1 republican, etc.

The 4 remaining candidates would then have a series of 10 debates over a two month period, followed by another 3 months of campaigning, then we'd have Round 2 of our national election.  The top two vote getters move on to the final round.  Again, party doesn't matter. You might end up with two republicans, or 2 dems, or 1 of each.

You have another 3 months of debates and campaigning, then have the final round of our national election.  The winner is president.

  6. Guaranteed health care for all citizens. People talk about how socializing is bad and that it would cause long waits and stuff, but if you have private insurance, you can get in when you want, but for the millions without insurance, they can't afford to see a doctor at all. I seriously feel that with as much government waste  there is of our tax money and as much as we pay, the government OWES us services, and we should be entitled to see a doctor and be ale to afford it for God's sake.

  7. 1. Stop "Minimum Wage", it causes prices to go up.

Add a specific wage to labor laws, to not go under.

    2. Allow for gas to be drilled in America to help individuals.

    3. Stop people from taking "Jobs" out of the USA. Allow more advantages for us to keep "factories" here.

    4. Raise taxes on Alcohol products. Do this because people don't need to drink anyway. They will pay!

    5. Close USA borders "using more equipment and power".

    6. Everyone in America should have "Health Care". Help make it more affordable.

    7. Make voting machines count for all people. (Super delegates or delegates), should not be allowed.

  8. A rule of "one person, one vote"  No delagates,no super delagates, just one vote per person. No ileagles,no one thats not registered. As in state elections,a person can win or lose by one vote. Hillery or Barack or McCain could win or lose by on vote. Let the people speak and be counted.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA

  9. I would suggest the restoration of our Republic! The United States is [or rather was] a "Representative Democracy within a Constitutional Republic". The bankrupt theory that our Constitution is a 'living document' is being used to promote Democracy. Before the 17th Amendment was passed, Senators were appointed by the Legislatures of the States rather than elected by the people. Because they were political appointees they could be 'Elder Statesmen [women]' and could be objective in the consideration of Bills. In theory, no lobbyists of PACs could bribe them and if they tried they could be dealt with as the criminals they are! Now, since the passage of the 17th Amendment, Senators are beholding to the fickle whims of the people whose vote they must get to be re-elected: a necessarily degenerate Democracy! The lobbyists and PACs offer buckets of money to help them get that vote! Democracy is always degenerate because people vote to support their own motivated self interest or what the demagogue, lobbyist or PAC of the minute has convinced them is their motivated self interest and so is reduced to its lowest common denominator! Democracy is a necessarily degenerate form of government that inevitably reduces itself to the lowest common denominator ie. 'Mob Rule'. Our country was designed and intended as a Republic back in 1787 and it is the residue of that Republic that has allowed us to last this long....

  10. Term limits, four terms for the House of Representatives and two terms for the Senate. Total public disclosure of all lobbyist activities and who got what from whom. A check against judicial activism via the public's ability to enact law through a national referendum process requiring a super-majority, once the law is enacted it can only be overturned by the same process (to prevent the court from overruling the will of the people).  Re-establish the right of all parties to enter into the debate for national office if they receive at least 1% of the vote during primaries. Allow all people to vote in all primaries for any candidate. No judicial appointments for life, 10 year appointments only for  the Federal bench and the Supreme court. Voter registration with absolute proof of citizenship - no proof no vote - period. Voting from home by phone with a PIN chosen by the voter at the time of registration. Restrictions on the media regarding exit polling, no exit polls released until all poles are closed and the vote is entirely in.
