What position does the ribbon for the controller/memory card piece need to be in in a PS2?

After quite a bit of coaxing, I got the power ribbon back into my PS2 and it's working again. Now I just need to reconnect the ribbon for controllers and memory cards, and I'll be 100% good to go. Exactly what position does the ribbon need to be facing to properly connect? I've tried both sides, top and bottom, hooked into the port, but neither work. The port itself has cracked open, but a little Mickey Mousing on my part should fix this.

You need to find the photo of PS2's motherboard for that, but it must be exactly for your model, because there are a lot of hardware revisions out there.
