What position should i chose?

if i make the team, i dunno what position i should play. i mean im pretty short, about only 5 ft. I haven't really tried hitting the ball, but I know that i'm probably too short to play front row. I'm also good at passing, but kind of suck at doing a serve-receive. I mean I don't suck, but im not a master at doing it. I'm ok at serving. I can set, but I don't really have that much aim with my sets. Sometimes they go too short or low and im afraid the hitter can't hit them. but overall, they're ok. should i just ask my coach? i dont want to be left with playing front row when everyone chooses they're positions so i wanna know which one i should choose. one of my coach varsity players made me play middle back.

  1. that depends on ur coach but im guessin ds or setter

  2. Try them all..you will see what fits u best...EVEN HITTING...but since you are short you should try setting...its hard at first...believe me...I'm 5'10 and I'm a setter hitter so i got to be LOW...but your short so it is easier for you to get down and see where the ball is going....And u don't have to overhand set..but its better...Until u learn the correct way to do it u should bump set.

I would also recommend being a libero.  they are great passer and since you are shorter then you should have no problem being down and ready to pass a ball

  3. Well, if you practice setting more, you should probably be the setter

  4. YEA, YOU SHOULD TRY LIBERO!!!!!!!!!!

  5. you should definitely choose server or front row short people are great in those positions

  6. if you practice with your friends using every position, then maybe youll get used to it and then say any position. (this also helps when they wont let you chose and ur left with the last postition...hehe) o and one more thing, if you dont really like hitting the ball, be in the front, girls hit it pretty high, im in a volleyball team myself!!!

  7. Well being 5 ft wont help you help you much lol.

I say practice your setting. You sound like you'd be a good setter or libero.   Try and set against a wall to practice.  If you really like serving and its something you pretty good at you can also try being a right side hitter.

  8. practice hitting and setting if your kinda short.

stay low with your butt down when hitting a serve, its gonna burn your thighs, but if you love to play....short people are excellent passers, have someone throw you a really hard ball and hit a controlled pass to them.

get a friend, sibling, or parent, and have them toss you a high ball to your forhead, set and AiM to them, without them running all over the place, make sure they catch it without moving that much. est. how far they are, and how much you have to shoot your arm out.

serving is a biggie, practice bringing your arm down really fast after you hit the ball. coaches go for a killer serve, short or tall!

  9. You just need to practice everything, if you find something you really like or are really good at choose that one or you can ask your coach, he/she will probably know what position you would be best at.

  10. i would say ask your coach, or someone that knows your strengths and weaknesses and knows what would be best for your team. I've been switched around alot for positions and i know your coach will make the best decision. He'she will know what's best for you and the team.

    hope everything works out!

  11. umm don't you play every position in volleyball?

    rotating?
