Question:

What position should i play in volleyball?

I've played volleyball for my middle school for two years but now I'm trying out for my high school team. We never had specific positions so when I try out I'm not sure what position I should say i play. I know I'm not the best at setting so I probably shouldn't be a setter. I'm also 5' 8" if that helps determine what position. Help.

  1. Let your coach worry about position. I'd concentate on increasing your skill level in all areas. If you work hard, pay attention, call the ball (always and loud) and show a commitment to improvement the coach will find a spot for you.

    Good Luck!

  2. my best guess would be midlde if your going to play jv or outside hitter! best of luck,

  3. you should go for outside hitter

the feeling of killing a ball and getting the point after a long rally is better than anything in the world!

  4. well if you have a really high verticle maybe you can be middle for a block or an outside hitter. i relaly think you should be a middle though.

  5. if you are that tall i would suggest blocker/spiker. tall girls can block easily and spike hard!

  6. 5'8" is pretty tall so if you are good at spiking the ball and jumping high you can be a middle or an outside hitter and a blocker when you are recieving. if not you can be a digger in the back row. definately don't be a setter. you would be much more valuable with your height in as some kind of hitter. and setting is the most confusing position especially in the 6-2 rotation

  7. middle front--- hitter

  8. Definitely go for front middle. 5'8 is tall, and trust me, the coaches will like that (they'll probably put you there whether you want to or not). If not, play outside hitter, because height is still needed for that. Its good that you are aware of some of your strengths, and you're too tall for a libero, so the solution seems obvious to me. Good luck with your team!

  9. a hitter(spiker)

  10. well with your height, front row is pretty much an automatic.  if you are a strong blocker probably M or RH.  If your swing is stronger than your block is effective then probably OH.

    ps... good luck!!!

  11. if you can spike, play front-center. if you are good at bumping and have good control over where the ball goes, play in the back. playing in the back row has to be able to dive for the ball though.

  12. You should set. And block when they try to spike the ball over the net. You could just block so easy that every time they do that, you guys could win.

  13. maybe you could be a hitter (spiker). since you are tall this could be a benefit for hitting the ball over the net. it really depends on what position you are most comfortable in!!

  14. If you're good at spiking: Since you're tall and can possibly jump high and you think you're good at spiking (meaning you have confidence in yourself) then you should probably play outside hitter or middle hitter. Outside hitter gives you more time for an approach and middle hitters have a short spurt of running/jumping to spike the ball so you must decide your pace. Middles tend to be BIG, like 6 foot girls and can block very well so perhaps you should try outside hitter if you don't like or don't do that well in blocking.

If you're good at spiking but it's inconsistent, as in you can't slam it or get it over everytime: If you enjoy spiking and are okay at it you should try playing right side hitter. This is the weak side. You get sets called "back sets" when you call for them but otherwie you're there for right side blocking and tips with hitting every now and again.

If you are good at bumping/passing: Back row is a good choice. If you like passing the ball and you have good control then you should play the backrow. If you work good under pressure and hard driven balls then backrow is for you because you'll be receiving spikes and serves. If you really enjoy diving and getting hard-to-reach balls then you should try for libero. Liberos are usually a little shorter but you could still try it out, depending howbig your team is, the might need your height in the front row. The libero comes in and out of only the back row whenever they please and swap with another play but the game doesnt stop for a substituion. They specialize in digging the ball up from a really hard spike or getting really long balls or backing up the back row players that may miss some shots.

  15. try middle or outside hitter

  16. Well i think you should be an outside hitter, unless you are one of the tallest on the team, then you should be a middle blocker. Its all up to your coach mainly.
