Hi my name is Matt Shaw and I am 10 years old. Next year I'll be 10 in a half. I have a weight of 40 kg and I'm one of the two fastest runners in the class. Although the other fastest runner likes soccer I might be a Right wing. I have a height of 150cm so what about lock or flanker. Sometimes im a very good kicker so what about a first-five. Please choose 2 or more positions to make me a best match!!!!!!!!

  1. based on that i'd say inside centre if you can kick aswell, possibly fullback if you get a bit bigger...

playing lock if you're fast is a waste of your speed, it's better suited to positions like centres, wing or fullback...

but like said before at your age nothing can be determined, decide what position you like playing and improve yourself to best suit it, time is on your side...

  2. Okay, you need to sort your lingo out. Don't know how the Americans talk but yeh :)

If you want to play lock or flanker you're gonna need to pile on some pounds and muscle. Or you'll just get killed! If you don't fancy being a forward then just practise playing in the backs. Practise handling the ball and kicking and your general ball handling skills! You'll get the hang of it. Just pick which position you like best and go for it. You'll soon realise if it isn't for you!

  3. Play Flanker

If your big and quick and play openside flanker, then a flyhalf will not be happy when you rut him full pelt and nail him

A position in the backs would be full back. Im guessing if your big for your age your probably a decent tackler, so anyone who breaks the line, you could nail them, and a good kick and pace comes in handy when clearing your lines of breaking through the oppositions defences

If your good at handing off or breaking tackles centre would be perfect, but i personally recommend flanker for you :D

  4. Based on your speed and size i would say you would be best suited to inside centre as they are usually one of the quickest in the team but also require a good kicking and passing game to support the flyhalf.

But dont limit yourself to this position. You could play halfback, flyhalf or fullback aswell as they require great speed and good kicking games.

I wouldn't suggest playing in the forwards with your speed although im not saying you dont need speed to be in the forwards but your team would benefit more with you in the backs. But still go ahead and have a go in the forwards. You may really enjoy playing there.

But at your age i would be trying every position possible to see which one you can excel in the most.

  5. At your age it doesn't matter too much about physicall stats, just pick a position you enjoy and get good at it, as your body develops you'll soon find a position that suits your body type and will be able to transfer quite a few of your skills.
