What position would be best for me to play in rugby?

I have just started playing rugby again after a 6 year absence. I am 21 yrs old and weigh approx 13 stone (182 Ibs). I can run the 100m in approx 11.5 seconds. I played for my school for 5 years and played flanker for 4 of them. the last year I spent at outside centre. The coach of my new team asked me where I want to play but I am stuck between outside centre and flanker. I know flankers are usually a bit bigger than me but this is where my experience lies. I am not scared of big hits and have great stamina. But my body shape is more suited to the backs.

Am I right to pick 1 of these 2 positions, or am I better suited to somewhere else? If so where?

  1. I'd stick with flanker and be very active in the loose.  Just play want you enjoy the most.  Then again, I play flanker, so I am biased.

  2. flankers the place to knock people down but after such an absence see if your new coach will allow you to slot in at outside centre for a few games until you get back into the swing of things. The rules have changed much in the last 6 years so it won't hurt to get back into the game first. The season is drawing to a close so play outside center till end and then try flanker next year

  3. My opinion is that i would stick at flanker for a couple of seasons whilst you familarise yourself with the game again, then maybe think about moving down to the backs.

  4. If i had an idea of your handling abilities i could make a better assesment. Flankers more fun though.

  5. Go for flanker , much more fun

  6. I would stick to either flanker or outside centre. I think you'll fit right in.
