Question:

What positions are "wing" and "post" players?

I know the main five positions are:

Point guard

shooting guard

small forward

power forward

center

But I hear people using the terms "wing" and "post" as positions as well. I'm assuming post players are the forwards, and wing players are the shooting guard and center. Am I correct?

  1. LOL all of these guy are incorrect. A wing player is a player who mainly plays outside of the paint shooting guard, small forward, and point guard. A post player is the power forward or center.

  2. wing players are mostly shooting guards and small forwards...post players are usually power forward and center. pretty much wing players are players that play on the wing/outside and post players are those that play in the low post

  3. There is no such thing in australia called wing player its a nick name for a postition, like the sg or pf , the wing is a postition on the court just as the arc of the 3-point line bends , the post is POST , big man

  4. Wing is generally just a forward player like a small or power forward, possible a shooting guard aswell. Post is a center

  5. I still haven't seen the right answer

    so I'll try and answer

Post players are guys that mainly play with their back to the basket and post up inside, PF and Centers: Duncan, Yao, Garnett, Boozer, Howard

Wing  are usually SG and SF. They are the guys that play outside and are usually jumpshooters or guys that drive to the basket: Kobe, Lebron, TMac, Melo,Redd, Iguodala

Think about your basic NBA set. The PG brings the ball up down center court,

The wings out near the 3pt line on both sides

The post players on both sides of the paint

    PG: Rondo

    2 Wings: Peirce, Allen

    2 Post: Garnett, Perkins

There are also players they call Swingmen

which are guys that can play both SF and SG: Lebron, Kobe, TMac, Prince, Peirce

PG are not called Wings, because they usually handle the ball in the middle of the court, they are the lead guards

  6. No.

    lol.

Wing players(well atleast to me) are players who play ouside the paint.  Usually ur PG, SG, SF.

The Post are you centers and PF.

Of course there are sometimes deviations such as the likes of a Brad Miller or a Rasheed Wallace who can be wing players.

The right and left wing of the NBA(just for facts) are located at the three point line but to the left and the right of the top of the arc.
