  1. Is this a homework question?  :P

  2. In China, a son was born to poor farmer parents. He grew up with them, worked hard and had very little. He became a school teacher and made about $100/month. He wanted a better life for his children, so he moved from the countryside where his family was to the city, where he found a factory job. The factory paid well--$3000/month, and housed him in a dormitory. He was happy that he'd be able to buy a good education for his child.

Is this economic growth positive for social well being? Do families need to be together for social well being?

  3. Economic growth would surely better the world by giving it more money, which would lead to better health care, but money seems to change people. In the way where they become less sincere, and do not have the best in mind for anyone but themselves. I think this qoute from Henry David Thoreau explains what I am trying to say.

"Our culture does not nourish that which is best or noblest in the human spirit. It does not cultivate vision, imagination, or aeshtetic or spiritual sensitivity. It does not encourage gentlesness, generosity, caring, or compassion. Increaslingly in the late 20th century, the economic technocratic-statist worldview has become a monsterous destroyer of what is loving and life-affirming in the human soul."
