What do you think of modern technology (such as internet, mp3's, streaming video, tivo) have on the future generation such as youths.

Example,

positive - easy access to obtain knowledge and research materials right at home instead of the library and therefore births future generation who are intellectuals.

negative - corrupts youths because inappropriate content such as p**n and such are easily obtained through downloading...

This is for an opinion piece and I just need some more examples. All help are kindly appreciated!

  1. Positive-more entertainment keeping children occupied longer

Negative-kids are more lazy and out of shape today than back when I was growing up,thanks to all these electronics and internet.

  2. I agree with the positives you have listed. A major negative, I think, is that technology distracts children from other things that have more 'meaning', in a number of ways.

It has changed our world, in that communication is less personal now, especially via the internet. Also, text messaging has seriously affected the linguistic abilities of youth...so many cannot spell!

I also believe that the means of discovery has changed. Where once a child would go and explore the world around them for answers, or ask their parents, now they can click a mouse and have a computer tell them.

And, as I have noticed on Yahoo! Answers, kids seem to think that they don;t have to do their homework themselves, they can just ask a million strangers.

  3. Technology is the downfall of our children. Look at all the ailments children now have due to inactivity because of technology.

Do you see kids outside playing tag, or other childhood games that would be seen up to & including the early 80's?

Granted they can find almost anything in a few moments on the internet & they can keep in touch with friends/family around the world in moments, but obesity is running rampant & childhood diseases are at an all time high due to all these video games, iPods, computers, cable & sateliite channels.

When I was growing up in NYC, I remember having Channel 2,4,5,7,9,11 & 13. THAT'S ALL. I was outside EVERY DAY playing softball, stick ball, wiffle ball, punch ball, roller skating, tag, fox & hounds & so many other things.

Now you rarely see children outside. It's a shame that technology is such a sharp double-edged sword.
