What powers…..‘The Power’, Phil Taylor?
Winner of 15 World Darts Championship, 10 World Matchplays and five Premier Leagues, Phil “The Power” Taylor continues to dominate the game of darts with his supernatural power and domination over the game of darts.
In the words of Taylor, the game of darts is about the synchronization of the right technique, accompanied with the right skill, which produces the right target.
However, he himself acknowledges the fact that there are no hard and fast rules that outline the do(s) and don’t(s) of the game.
These words might seem amazing from a person who continues to enjoy a hegemonic status in darts and with every passing tournament and championship, his glory and charisma takes a completely new form.
His precision and accuracy of striking darts, increases unprecedentedly even after passing his fifth tier.
The key question that emerges from all these observations is what is the source that fuels and boosts Phil Taylor’s game? What gives him the will power to continue his fighting attitude? And for how long will his highly determined attitude towards
his game continue to prevail?
People say charity begins at home and they are absolutely right in the case of Phil Taylor.
His household, which includes his wife, Yvonne, and their four grown-up children, Lisa, Chris, Kelly and Natalie, constitute his ultimate source of inspiration, motivation and the level of dedication he exhibits in his game. With the addition of his
three grand children in the family, his level of inspiration has taken a completely new turn.
He feels much more complete, relaxed and satisfied with himself and all of this contributes and manifests in his performance, able to deliver at every championship and tournament.
Another reason, further contributing to the undisputed performance of Phil Taylor is the level of satisfaction he gets from achieving something appreciative and commendable in his life, after going through multitude of troubles and toils.
He himself recalls that there was a stage in his life when he was doing three odd jobs. One at a ceramics factory, second in a car repairing workshop and the third in a bar on weekends, whereas now, he is able to make 4000 pounds for simply turning
up or participating in a certain event.
All these factors collectively contribute to the fact that after all the struggling phases in his life, Phil has finally achieved what he anxiously yearned for in his life.
This feeling has further motivated him in believing that he does not need to take part in championships and tournaments for the sake of earning money now. For him, today its more about the legacy, about serving as a harbinger for young players eyeing
a career in the game of darts, and serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for them in the long run.
All these things lie at one end, while respecting elders and seniours of your profession rest at the other end.
The former one is the end which increases your proximity towards the level of success you intend to achieve.
Phil’s yet another source of power lies in the respect that he has shown towards his seniors and elders of his profession. Few people would know that prominent darts’ player, Eric Bristow, began to mentor Phil in the conclusive stages of his career.
It was he who first gave Phil the title of ‘little sponge’, and the training and skills he has acquired from his mentor is the token of confidence and respect he has given to Bristow.
After going through this synopsis of Taylor’s professional and personal life, we can easily understand that a person who has so many sources of power around him will definitely be in no mood to give up his title of ‘The Power’.
