Depends how close you are to the kid - You could buy something small & educational, like a book or a board game - or give his/her parent's a savings bond from the bank

I can help!  I have 5 year old twins.  They are girls so I will probably come up with more for them but they still tend to play with both "gender" items at that age.

Fisher Price digital camera. $30, has a screen to see the pictures, a flash and holds 30 pictures. Not super high quality if you print them, but perfect for a child. My daughter has been addicted to hers since Feb.
