What pretty tropical fish are there? I want my 4ft tank to basically look like a saltwater without being one.

I really want the look of a saltwater tank, but haven't got the extra time or money to have one. I know tropicals stilll take some time and care. Can anyone suggest some colorfull tropical fish, preferably not too expensive. I have a 4x3x2ft tank, large. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Clown fish are really cute, but they are quite common nowadays, thanks to the finding nemo film!

My friend has a type of shrimp that glow really cool colurs, they are about 3 inches and have blue and red stripes, quite pretty. ^_^

All south american cichlids are pretty as well as active. I would say green terror since they have a green body and orange fins, $10 for a juvenile one. Flowerhorn is one of the prettiest south american cichlid that is being sold in chinese markets, they are also the most valuable fish due to their colors and hump, all these fishes grow up to 12 inches. You can buy a baby flowerhorn for $10-$15. They are aggressive, best to be kept alone.

With plants, rock wood and other decor you can really make a tropical tank look good. Cichlids are pretty fish but you cannot put any plants in the tank.

Rather large tank for some danios, but 'glo fish' (genetically altered danios) come in pink, yellow/greenish, and orange. They can be a little pricey but they're very interesting, and proceeds are supposed to go to the genetic research that produced them. They're community fish, so you can throw them in with other fish. Neon tetras are also fun, but I don't know if the two species are compatable.
