What prevents passengers from entering through baggage claim area?

I recently took a flight with several connections and at all airports I noticed how easy it would be for someone who hasn't cleared security to enter the boarding (restricted to ticketed passengers only) areas of airline terminals. What prevents this from happening?

  1. There are people watching. Presumably you're talking about somebody waiting at arrivals entering the baggage hall?

I did notice on the TV show "Airline" when a group of people without boarding passes attempted to run through the check area. Within seconds they were surrounded by numerous security people and evicted rapidly, who appeared out of nowhere.

  2. What you did not see are the TSA and airport police personnel that watch those areas.  Believe me, if you had tried to enter the secure area you would have been stopped.

  3. No way, far too much security.
