  1. For great generic gifts (for any ages), go for australiana food (that travels well).

    Eg;

    Milo (this is a must),

    Tim-tams (anything arnotts),

    Vegimite (as a novelty, don't be offended with their disgust)

    You could get the guy some ugg-boots (or the rest of the family)

    The youngest, a stuffed toy koala, or wombat or kanga.

    The older girl might like something surfy, or aussie-made beauty products (face of australia, australis, etc) not nessicarily clothes though because the french are aparently way ahead of us in that category.

    The parents might like some wine (SA and WA are internationally renowened for their wines, and Waaaaay cheaper here) or a boomerang if your bags are too heavy.

    For christmas, you could give them something that pokes fun at the 'australian christmas' like those cards with santa wearing a wife-beater, taking a kangaroo instead of a sleigh. Or a christmas decoration (i have a hanging surfing santa with a beer in his hand) that they can keep for years to come that'll remind them of you.

    These are just a couple of ideas, but shop around at the tourist botique-stores for inspiration... That's exactly who their target market are, so you're bound to find something (then i'd try to buy it elsewhere cos those kind of stores have rediculous mark-ups).

    You could also make them some pavlova or lamingtons or other traditionally australian dishes when you get there... that's always a cute gesture... and maybe leave them with a hand-written recipe of the ones they liked. (you might have to google the instructions of course)

    Have an awsome trip!!

  2. males always a good wine or  whiskey the ladies of the house nice shirt or top   she may even like  good chocolates  even your here and buy  make sure  the chocolates are Belgium Chocolate  and for the kids the  17  year old  music find out what he likes , 14 and  9 year old  have you heard of build a bears  not sure if you have them there  but  we do have them in france  where you build  and dress this cute animals , or music as well for the 14 year old ,  9 years old go for dolls ,stuffed animals   maybe something that say Australia on it

    Edit  I forgot to say  many french adults don't  do gifts  for adults at christmas or birthdays unless it for a child they don't see  the reason for adults  to get gifts at those times strange i know I from the usa and learned my husband family did not understand why i bought gifts for them  for those days sense they did not have the use to doing so  now they  buy gifts      due to   the change in thinking   hehe  also  the cheese  if you never had any it realy does smell and  taste liek  feet  i don't  eat the cheese here lol but  tell your host mother what you can and  can not eat  so she knows be for hand  it to help her  sense she well be doing all the cooking  if they are anything like my mother in law home males sit and do nothing while  wifes does everything in the home so make sure you help her out as much as you can :) in my home i'm boss and he knows it hehe
