  1. A bloody nose that won't stop would be treated in the ER.  The exact treatment would depend on the cause of the bleeding and might involve packing the nose with gauze, cauterization, or even surgery.

  2. The procedure would be to take the child to the emergency room.  Having tubes put in the ears indicates sinus/ear infections which can cause nose bleeds but not to the extent they don't stop.  The child had "chronic" nosebleeds not non-stop nosebleeding.

  3. My brother and son both had noses that wouldn't stop bleeding once they started.  They both had to go to a Ear, Nose and Throat doctor.  The doctor was able to isolate the superficial blood vessel that was causing all the problems.  She then cauterized the end of the vessel which has stopped all bleeding problems.

  4. It depends on how long the child's nose has been bleeding.  Also what methods are being used to stop the bloody nose.  I agree with the first poster...keep in mind that it is for drastic bloody noses that cannot be stopped.

The nose needs time to have the blood clot in order to stop the bleeding.  Being blown shortly afterwards or not keeping pressure on long enough will cause the clot to not stay formed and keep the blood from stopping.  If this happens, then more drastic measures such as cauterizing might need to take place, although if methods are done correctly, it WILL stop bleeding on its own.

When I was younger I had a nose bleed that wouldn't stop so my parents had to call EMS.  Of course it DID stop right after they hung up the phone from the call.

What is the method your friend told you?  Just out of curiosity.

  5. cauterization, which is basically burning the area that is bleeding.

  6. What I do is I lean over the sink and pinch the bone in my nose and when it stops bleeding if there's any blood in the sink I obviously clean it with water and I use a wash cloth toilet paper or paper towel or clean ex
