  1. 3.0 ghz would be slightly faster than a 2.5 ghz but the quad core would be more powerful I would think.

  2. i would say the same 2

  3. I'd go for the Duo. The E8xxx series have great performance while running exceptionally efficiently.

Intel still haven't got their Quad-core architecture quite right - they're still doing it by shoving two dual-core dies into one chip. Until they solve the implications, drawbacks and bottlenecks this has (or create a proper quad-core) then I would stick with a good dual core.

I have the Q6600 clocked at 3ghz but I wouldn't be too worried about swapping it for an E8400.

  4. The quad processor is more powerful. It has 820 million transistors compared to 410 of the dual core.

  5. There not the same... The york field will preform better on multi thereded tasks that utilize all 4 cores but the Dual core will preform much better on tasks that only utilize one or two cores because of its higher frequency 3.0ghz and the fact that the 6mb cache is shared between only 2 cores.

If your gaming use the 8400.
